Ross hoddinott
Ross Hoddinott is among the UK’s leading landscape photographers. With numerous awards and clients under his belt, Hoddinott has received national recognition for his work , including the Digital SLR Photography and Wild Planet Magazine, his work is published widely. Hoddinott has been working as a full time professional since 1997, supplying images and undertaking work for clients world-world. His work varies from breath taking landscape images to macro stills of insects and wildlife. I will use his take on the beauty of nature and use it in my upcoming photo-shoots.
These are my favourite two photographs by Hoddinott. This is due to the composition of the photograph, Hoddinott has placed the camera at angle where the viewer can experience both the sky and the water. The reflectiveness of the water is aesthetically pleasing for the viewer, and the colours contrast well against the silhouette of the land. The addition of the plants in the water also adds to this idea of a silhouetted landscape. The second uses long exposure with the fog to create a mystical effect, this adds to the mood of the piece. Hoddinott has also used the landscape to his advantage, as by taking the photograph from this angle creates a sense of depth, which is again aesthetically pleasing.
Adam burton
Adam Burton is a self-taught professional photographer since 2008. His work is widely known and is highly sought after. He has photographed many of the worlds natural landscapes, but specifically specialises in photography around the UK. From places like Devon to Antarctica.Since 2004 his images have been published regularly in national newspapers and magazines like the AA and National Geographic. Burton's strong desire to capture the innate beauty of natural landscapes conveys in the message in his photography, as he engendered a strong desire to record the landscape at its natural best, and nothing more. Therefore no computer manipulation is ever used in his work.
These are my favourite two photographs. This is because Burton uses the natural landscapes he comes across. He uses no computer manipulation and lets his work speak for itself. He also uses a filling the frame camera technique, so the viewer only sees what the photographer wants them to see. The natural colours of the sky, compliment each other and actually reflect on the water. The use of the pier in the photograph separates the landscape from the photographer. In the second photograph, Burton uses a similar style. He has used a long exposure technique, so the clouds and fog, look like they have been captured moving. The sky has also reflected onto the water, with the lighter parts of the sky.
photo-shoot 1 - Rogie falls, Ross-shire
The aim of this photo-shoot was to capture the innate beauty of natural wonders. This photo-shoot en-captures the vast power of the water. I used a fast shutter speed to capture the movement of the water, and the steam coming off the waterfall , this was because of the speed but also how cold the surrounding forest was. I took these photographs from higher ground, because I found that this ensured a better quality of image as it en- captured the whole waterfall as well as the forest around it.

These are my two favourite photographs from this photo-shoot. The first one fills the frame so it ensures the viewer focuses on just the water and rocks. I used my macro lens to get the intricate detail of the rocks, (grooves and dents). This photograph is also more zoomed in so the viewer can see the movement of the water. The second en-captures the whole of waterfall, you can also see backdrop of the woodland area. I feel this looks better as it suits my theme and compliments the colours of the forest. I also used a fast shutter speed so you can see the steam coming off the water but also its fast paced movements.
photo-shoot 2 - FINDHorn Beach
The aim of this photo-shoot was to capture the vast beauty of natural landscapes and the different versions they come in. I feel this photo-shoot went well as I feel I captured the natural beauty of the beach. I took over 200 photographs on this photo-shoot and have distilled them to the ones I feel best suited my theme. I feel the viewer gets the sense of tranquillity I was trying to convey.

These are my two favourite photographs from this photo-shoot. This is because I feel I have captured the rare beauty of a red, orange, yellow and purple sunset. The first of the photo's uses a rule of thirds camera technique, using the handrail down to the beach. I did this so the viewer gets both the sunset, and the sand dunes in one photograph. The sand dunes also contrast to the bright colours of the sky. Also it makes it more pleasing for the viewer. The second photograph only focuses on the sunset and the beach. This is because it removes any unwanted distractions, so the viewer only focuses on the landscape's natural beauty. The bright colours of the sunset contrast to the blue tones of the sky and sea. The oranges and yellows have reflected on the still water. I feel this creates a calming mood and effect on the viewer.
photo-shoot 3 west ross-shire highlands
The aim of this photoshoot was to get a wide range of natural landscape photography. I wanted to see these landscapes in different states. In this photoshoot I waited for the weather to become more misty and grey. This was to ensure that the viewer gets a sense of the more mysterious side to nature.

These are my two favourite 2 photographs from this photo-shoot. This is because in the first photograph the natural colours of the sky and the greens of the hills are harmonious. The angle of the photograph captures the natural depth of the hills from the lake. I waited for the weather to be more dreary and miserable as this created the fog and a subsequent mysteriousness in the photo. The sunlight cast on the valley creates a warmer tone to the photograph and matches with the warmth from the sky. In the second photograph I have zoomed in, so to get a better image quality of the mountains and the details and colours. In this photograph it is more misty, so this makes the mood of the photograph even more sublime.
photo-shoot 4 - 'Ben nevis' fort william

These are my two favourite photographs from this photo-shoot. This is because in the first photograph I have focused on just the sky and the mountains. This was done so it removes all unwanted information and the viewer focuses on just the landscape.I was lucky with the weather as this part of Scotland is usually quite overcast. The sky was clear with few clouds, this also helps the viewer focus on the mountains. The second photograph en-captures the beautiful landscape as well as the reflection of the water and the sky. The blue tones of both photographs creates a calming mood for the viewer, and therefore is aesthetically pleasing. The clouds in the second photograph creates a natural depth and gives the viewer the sense of the vast length of land between where the photograph was taken and the mountain.
photo-shoot 5
The aim of this photo-shoot was to capture a rare event, like a full arch rainbow. This was because it suits my theme of natural worlds. I feel this photoshoot could have gone better, If I has waited to capture the full rainbow rather than parts of it.

photo-shoot 6
The aim of this photoshoot was to take aesthetically pleasing photographs of a sunset over some mountains. I have used a depth of field camera technique to give the viewer a sense of the vastness of the valley. I think this photoshoot went well as I have achieved what I set out to achieve.

These photographs were taken moments apart, but have vary varied outcomes. The first is a favourite because of the boldness of the colours of the sunset that actually harmonise together. The mountain acts as a silhouette against the sky. In this photograph I have also used a depth of field camera technique as it adds to the viewers sense of being there in that moment. In the second, the clouds are almost sitting on the mountain, this creates a shadow effect. This effect ensures that part of the green areas are cast in sunlight, the contrasting light and dark is something unusual but also makes the image more striking for the viewer.

photo-shoot 7
The aim of this photoshoot was to capture these photographs at different times in the day and how they compare. Some of these photographs were taken at noon, whilst others were taken roughly at 6:30pm when the sun had started to set. I think this photoshoot went well as there is a clear contrast in the photographs and I feel they are also aesthetically pleasing for the viewer.

These are my favourite two images from this photoshoot. This is due to the stark contrast between the two photographs, in the first the photograph has been taken later in the day, whereas in the second it has been taken earlier. The first is more aesthetically pleasing for the viewer, because of the sunset the surrounding mountain becomes a silhouette against the sky. In the second the dull sky actually acts a a reflector for the water and subsequently makes the photograph prettier. The dark greens and purples are now visible on the mountains, unlike in the first image, this compliments the sky and water well. The natural lighting in both compliments the surrounding areas, but I feel the second image to be more effective as the whole setting is more harmonious.

photoshop tutorial
Firstly I duplicated the layer to ensure that if any mistakes are made can be removed easily
I then sharpened the image so its more in focus.
|
I then adjusted the brightness and contrast to add more depth to the image.
I then adjusted the colour balance, to bring out the colours that are already there.
